Midwest Hockey League Won’t Gamble On Motor City
7-9-08

The Midwest Hockey League announced on Wednesday morning that the Motor City Gamblers will not be participating in the leagues inaugural 2008-2009 season. The Gamblers ownership and the Great Lakes Sports City arena have entered into agreements with multiple leagues, simultaneously.

League President Wade Stuckey commented on the recent developments, “As a League, the MWHL acts only in good faith and with those that do the same. We have determined, through league decisions, and now action, that we cannot and will not be participating in the market this season in any way. The ownership group has also been released from further participation, but may be re-visited next year”

The Midwest Hockey League Board of Directors met to discuss what action should be taken in regards to these most recent developments. Chip Rossetti, “We looked at all of the options and the entire scenario and deemed that it would not be in the best interest of the league to move forward in the Detroit market at this time. We tried to work with the ownership to get them into another market because just felt that the Detroit market was too over-saturated. We just couldn’t make it work.”

The MWHL is continuing to move forward, working toward its first season of play and the league expects to announce its participating teams in the next two weeks, including one announcement this week.
